Barbara Fischer

Double Bass

Barbara Fischer is born and bred in the alps of Tyrol. She grew up in a musical family and played many years Hackbrett in different traditional groups. When she was six years old, she also started to play piano and switched to double bass when she was fourteen. She studied double bass at the Konservatorium in Innsbruck with Walter Rumer (AKAMUS) and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Frank Reinecke (BRSO). At the time in Innsbruck she gained her first experience in early music and historical performance practice. Today she is living as a freelancing musician and is specialist for ancient music. She plays the 8’ and the 16’ violone and is member of the group Concerto Stella Matutina. She works together regularly with baroque ensembles like Il pomo d’oro, Ensemble Castor, Barucco, L’Orfeo Barockorchester and La Banda. Further she is guest musician in ensembles like Europa Galante, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concentus Musicus and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Her work has taken her to international festivals like the Salzburger Festspiele, Chopin Festival Warsaw, Festwochen der Alten Musik Innsbruck, Styriarte, Trigonale, Opera festival in Aix-en- Provence, Rheingaufestival, Carinthischer Sommer and many more.
