Händel Festspiele Halle, Arias for Caffarelli, Franco Fagioli

19:30 / The Concert Hall Ulrichskirche

General

Works by G. F. Händel, D. Sarro, N. A. Porpora, J. A. Hasse and others Gaetano Majorano (1710–1783), who achieved fame under the stage name of Caffarelli, was one of the greatest castrati in the history of opera. His brilliant vocal and interpretative skills enthralled audiences, as did his flamboyant personality. During his stay in London during the 1737-38 season, he sang the title roles in Handel’s Serse and Faramondo. Franco Fagioli, an outstanding international star among the countertenors of today, and the young Baroque orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro conducted by Ricardo Minasi bring the fascinating world of Caffarelli back to life in this concert.
